u3a holiday to St Ives 5th - 9th May 2025
34 of us gathered at Yeovil Bus Station and were then joined by 2 members from Crewkerne. After a brief coffee stop in Exeter we headed to Padstow with plenty of time for lunch and a wander around the pretty harbour town. Then on to St Ives. The hotel had a glorious view over the bay and we were very well looked after by the helpful and attentive staff.
We had Tuesday to look around St Ives which is very hilly and has lots of narrow lanes radiating from the harbour, with lots of little shops. The town is a centre for the arts and most people visited the Barbara Hepworth Sculpture Garden, a haven of peace and tranquility, and also Tate St Ives.
Wednesday took us to Truro and it's lovely cathedral then to Falmouth which has the second deepest natural harbour in the world (after Sydney) and was hosting a massive SAGA cruise ship.
Thursday we went to Marazion for gorgeous views of St Michaels Mount with some members walking across the Causeway then we watched the tide coming in and covering it so the ferry took over. On to Penzance and then for those who wanted our driver took us to Lands End.
After a lovely few days with mostly hot, sunny weather it was time to leave and our coffee stop was at Cornish Gold where there was a museum showing the history of gold mining and a shop, then we had lunch at Buckfast Abbey with time for a stroll around their lovely grounds.
Altogether a lovely holiday.
