In our Family History Group, we recently discovered that we had three members distantly related.
This is the story in Jan's own words
The Family History meetings are always fun, sharing and informative, but the meeting on the 7th July this year was extraordinary.
To start at the beginning of the story I have to go back a few months to when I did a short presentation and included my Levett family.
I have two lines of this family as two of my
great grandmothers were Levett sisters and so my parents were 2nd cousins. Brenda was a fairly-new member of the group and she told me that her birth name was Levett, explaining that the family came from the East End of London and were Coppersmiths.
To her surprise I confirmed that my family were also Coppersmiths from London.
At this point, she had not started on her research and knew very little, just the name of her father and grandfather. I
pointed her in the right direction, but then got busy myself trying to link the families.
The basics were quite simple, but then the information I gathered found the answer to a block in my family tree. We are 4th cousins and not just that, because I found that her great grandfather’s brother, married my great grandmothers’ sister!
This was exciting enough, but we went to the FH meeting to tell the members “Where We Came From” as that was the task of the day. Brenda started with our French roots and I was
to continue with my family’s arrival in Rowley Regis (now part of Birmingham), when Kevin, another member of the group, told us that he was from there too. We had a more in-
depth conversation after the meeting and sent details to and from by email.
It turns out that he is also related to Brenda and myself.
What are the odds of that happening? I don’t believe in coincidence, but I do believe in synchronicity!
Let’s see what happens next!!
