Yeovil U3A: members requiring carers
U3As are self-help organisations run entirely by the members for the members and therefore it is important that individuals are able to take full responsibility for their own participation in our activities or events.
The committee would not wish members to stop attending even if health problems or disability might preclude a member from engaging fully in U3A activities.
The Third Age Trust, after considerable consultation, has provided the following protocol to be employed in such circumstance and has extended its liability insurance to cover the attendance of a carer:
Where members are no longer able to take full responsibility for themselves they may only attend meetings, groups and events if accompanied by a carer or a family member, who will accept full responsibility on their behalf. The carer does not have to be a U3A member.
A carer is someone approved by the family of the member to carry out that role. The carer will not be expected to pay the cost of the activity engaged in.
If you should find yourself in the position of needing carer assistance in order to continue to enjoy your membership of Yeovil U3A do feel free to speak to a member of committee in confidence.
